The Swiss Equestrian Federation (SEF) is very pleased to announce the appointment of Michel Sorg as the new Managing Director of the SEF. Michel Sorg will take up his post gradually on 1 May 2023, as he will still be the Chef d’Equipe of the Swiss elite show jumpers this season. The "Academy" project for Swiss equestrian talents will remain under his responsibility in the future.

The Swiss Equestrian Federation has a new Managing Director. After a multi-stage evaluation process conducted by a selection committee and confirmed by the Executive Board, the SEF has unanimously appointed Michel Sorg as Managing Director. He succeeds the outgoing Managing Director Sandra Wiedmer.

Michel Sorg is a recognised personality on the Swiss and international equestrian scene and is very familiar with the many facets and stakeholders of the sport. The 37-year-old Geneva native has gained a lot of experience in numerous areas: first as a speaker and journalist, later as Vice-Director of the CHI Geneva, in the SEF jumping department as Head of Sport, Chef d’Equipe of the Swiss elite show jumpers and Project Manager of the "Academy" for Swiss equestrian talents.

"I am convinced that Michel Sorg is the right choice for the challenging position at the top of the SEF", says SEF President Damian Müller. "He is connected with horses, knows the disciplines and is a strong personality. In short, he brings ideal qualities so that we can implement the chosen path of positioning the SEF as a progressive sports federation."

Michel Sorg is very pleased about his new position: "The appointment as SEF Managing Director is a great honour for me. It has always been my goal to work for equestrian sports and their further development." He wants to implement the projects set out in the "SEF 2030" strategy in close cooperation with the Board, the Executive Management including Evelyne Niklaus and Bruno Invernizzi, the staff of the Head Office and the member associations. "We have many projects to further develop all disciplines from the grassroots to the elite and to advance our federation on a sporting, economic and political level. We now want to systematically boost these projects and implement the strategic goals."

Michel Sorg will take up his post gradually on 1 May 2023. He will remain fully involved as Chef d’Equipe of the Swiss show jumpers this season, with the main goal of achieving the team qualification for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 at the European Championships in Milan. His successor as Chef d’Equipe will be appointed by the end of 2023.

The "Academy" project for Swiss equestrian talents will continue to be under Michel Sorg's project management. "It is a matter of the heart for me to remain committed to young talents," says Michel Sorg.
